Shochu/Liqueur
Many liqueurs are based on fruits or flowers in Japan, the most famous of which is the plum liqueur, umeshu in Japanese. Liqueurs are bottled with or without the whole fruits or with the fruits mixed in puree and are made from fruits macerated in alcohol such as shochu or, more rarely, sake. Liqueurs, which have very intense fruity aromas, can be enjoyed neat with ice cubes, with sparkling water, or as an ingredient in a cocktail.
